2006 Drought on Deadman's Creek

On August 16 the Deadman's Creek ran dry before reaching our fenceline for the first time. The creek has flowed continuously for the some 30 years we have had our place. The flow at the spot where we usually have to use stepping stones to get across is quite low, as shown in the following picture.

Stepping stones no longer really needed on Aug. 16.

The creek has dried up roughly 100' from our fenceline.

Most of the water in our section of Deadman's Creek originates from springs along the west bank, where the Glen Rose formation tilts from west to east. Even with the severe winter–spring drought the springs were flowing relatively strong in mid may, as the picture from May 21 shows.

On Aug. 12 all springs were flowing, but some just barely. But on Aug. 16 the largest springs were no longer contributing to the creek.
